Bona vacantia estates, worked to a documented verdict

8 files on sale · nearest bar 58 days

Each file settles who inherits, or shows the line ends — both ways, evidenced and checkable against public records.

Terms, and how this works

Not legal advice, and not a determination of entitlement. Who inherits is a question of law on facts, and that judgement is yours to make.

No living person is named and none has been approached. A file identifies a living individual only as a candidate with its evidence, never as a concluded identity, and supplies no contact details.

A negative is dated, never permanent. Every conclusion states the date its sources were searched.

Requests go through this page, where they are recorded and answered; replies to the sending address are not picked up.

This page is a new system. If something looks wrong, tell us — early teething troubles are expected and get fixed fast.

Completed case files — Offered exclusively

Take one case, on a no-win-no-fee basis — 50/50 on your first three recovered cases

  • No win, no fee. Nothing is payable unless a claim is recovered. The research is done and paid for at our end — your only outlay is your own claim work.
  • Why we are not claiming it ourselves. We research; we hold no client agreements and do no claim handling or distribution. That is your side of the work, and the whole reason a split exists.
  • These are cold cases, and cold cases have no race. Firms compete over each week’s fresh Crown listings while estates from the 1990s sit unworked. Nobody is bidding against you on a death from 1996.
  • Read a finished one first, free. John Wingate Jefferay Saul is a complete file, end to end, with every citation checkable — and it is past its bar, so it is also exactly what a case looks like when the clock wins. 210 more like it.
  • Start with one, at 50/50. Pick any case below and ask for it. Half of your recovered commission, net of VAT and disbursements, on your first three recovered cases or six months, whichever comes first — then 60/40 our way on the same base. Set out now, not raised later.
  • One firm per case, in the order firms come forward. Nothing here is offered twice, and nothing here sits with another firm.

Every file on the shelf is visible, so you can see what you would be joining. Taken cases stay listed and are marked as taken.

Each file is a finished search on an estate from the Crown’s bona vacantia list — who inherits, evidenced and checkable against public records, or proof that the line ends. 342 available now, and each one goes to a single firm. 45 of them pass the thirty-year bar within the year — after that date nobody can claim them, including you. 210 already have.

  1. Click any case below. An email to us opens, already written, with that case’s reference in the subject.
  2. Press send. There is nothing to fill in — add a note if you want to, or don’t. Nothing is sent until you send it.
  3. We reply within one working day with the file itself and terms for that case.

Each file is worked to the documented standard shown further down, and sold exclusively — one firm per case, on terms agreed case by case.

Value — where an estimate has been taken it is shown as a band, never a figure: under £100k£100k–£250k£250k–£500k£500k–£1mover £1m
An estimate is not a documented value. Every file here has had its value checked. A band means a property-based estimate was possible; a dash means the check found no basis to value from — no figure stated in a grant, and no property that can be tied to the estate. That is a gap in the evidence, not a small estate and not an empty one.

Screened after the bar had passed210

Every one of these was worked to a verdict — the probate index searched, the result recorded either way. And every one is past the thirty-year bar, so no claim by anyone is now possible. They are shown in full, names and references included, precisely because there is nothing left to win: this is what the work looks like, and what happens when the clock beats it.
